Evoking the emergence of crystal clarity from rugged geodes.
Immaculate crystals formed within coarse rock formations are one of the secluded joys of the natural world. Dramatic natural acts generate sedimentary and volcanic rock that gradually cools to form protective shells, within which mineral deposits coalesce over time to form radiant geometric crystals. The emergence of these refined treasures from raw forces inspired Haberdashery to create a mesmerising centrepiece, paying tribute to the perfect imperfections of nature.
Each component honours the marriage of rough and refined. The rugged shell of the geode is cast in aged brass, dark pewter or satin nickel, featuring textured undulations representing the natural weathering of rock. The character evolves as the metals give way to sandblasted glass and beyond to a clear crystal finish, revealing stunning symmetrical clarity. Sheer planes, minute steps and sharp angles all reflect the core geometry that gives rise to crystals at a molecular level: complex processes of nature presented at their most refined.
Formation and Cluster compositions represent the outlines of cracked geodes teasing their treasures hidden within. A metallic edge of colour and rough hue forms the outline shape on one side, while faceted light emanates from the reverse. Each crystal is randomised in formation and angle, revealing new patterns to the eye as the viewer explores the form. Natural growth patterns are emulated by clusters of crystals nestled within the structure.
Variations in light treatment create pockets of colour within the compositions moving from warm white to rose quartz, intermingling to encourage active interaction with the piece as it reveals its cosseted treasures. The visual journey of discovery is enhanced through the interplay of glowing colour and sharp shadow projected across the space.
