St. Ives Pitcher
St. Ives Pitcher
Crafted in Los Angeles, each piece is individually thrown, pulled, shaped and trimmed by hand on the potter’s wheel by a single master potter.
These pieces start their journey as lumps of mixed, recycled clays. They go through two firing processes. First, bisque firing removes moisture from the raw clay and hardens their forms. They are then glazed inside and half of the outside in Transparent, which reacts with this mixture of dark clays to produce a lush, mottled celadon color. The bottom part is left unglazed to show the raw clay in all its glory. The pieces are finished in the kiln, glaze-fired for at least 12 hours at around 2400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Each item is utterly unique, its final form determined only by Tad’s mood or inspiration in the moment while at the wheel. Quirks on these seductively tactile pieces are to be embraced and only enhance their individuality and charm.
Available exclusively at Una Malan.
